Legal Aid/Public Interest Law Technology

  • Chicago-Kent College of Law Center for Access to Justice and Technology — The Center for Access to Justice and Technology conducts research, builds software tools, teaches classes, and supports faculty, staff and student projects on access to justice and technology in order to promote the use of the Internet as a means to increase access to the law.
  • Legal Services National Technology Assistance Project — The Legal Services National Technology Assistance Project (LSNTAP) helps legal aid programs improve client services through effective and innovative use of technology. LSNTAP provides on-site assistance, training, and online information.
  • Pro Bono Net — Pro Bono Net works to increase access to justice by (i) supporting the use of technology in the nonprofit legal sector, (ii) increasing participation by volunteers, and (iii) facilitating collaborations among those working on similar issues or in the same region. Pro Bono Net’s key projects are probono.net, LawHelp.org, Online Document Assembly, and Pro Bono Manager.
  • SelfHelpSupport.org — SelfHelpSupport.org supports self-help practitioners with a clearinghouse of information related to self-representation, including information and examples of how technology is being used to support and deliver self-help initiatives.
  • Technology Initiative Grants Program — Through the Technology Initiative Grant program, the Legal Services Corporation (LSC) provides LSC-funded legal aid programs with funding to explore new ways to serve low-income communities and build capacity using technology.

Nonprofit Technology Resources

  • Beth’s Blog — Beth Kanter is an expert on how to use new web tools (blogging, tagging, wikis, photo sharing, video blogging, screencasting, social networking sites, virtual worlds, and so on) to support social change. This blog is one of the places where she captures and shares her ideas.
  • idealware — Idealware reviews software of interest to nonprofits. Findings are delivered to the community through articles, reports, trainings, and newsletters.
  • NTEN — NTEN, the Nonprofit Technology Network, is the membership organization for nonprofit technology professionals. The organization’s staff and supporters work to connect members with one another so that they can share best practices and support each others’ work.
  • TechSoup.org — TechSoup.org provides free technology information, resources, and support for the nonprofit community. They run TechSoup Stock, which provides discounted technology products to the nonprofit community.

Law Technology

  • Law.com Legal Technology — Published by Incisive Media, Law.com Legal Technology covers the current trends and issues in technology and provides insight on how the legal community is affected. This site’s news is drawn from the Law Technology News magazine as well as many of the company’s other publications.
  • Legal Technology Resource Center — The American Bar Association‘s Legal Technology Resource Center (LTRC) provides the legal community with technology information about issues such as XML standards development, universal citation, and the emergence of new top level Internet domains.
